Unlike many string players, Joy Holz began playing in middle school after moving to a school district with a string program. Lucky chance and hard work led to a career as a professional musician and private music teacher. After studying music at Kansas State and Colorado State, she moved to Nebraska to teach and freelance as a chamber musician. She first started playing with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra as a last minute viola substitute in 2018, and is happy to now be a full time member. When not performing or practicing, you can usually find Joy gardening or baking for a gathering of friends.
